Rory at the Mildenhall Rock & Blues Festival, 5 August 1989

On this day in 1989, Rory headlined the Mildenhall Rock & Blues Festival. The Festival was originally founded in 1981 as the East Anglia Rock and Blues Festival and was held at the Mildenhall Speedway in East Anglia. The nearby US air base often provided the event with a large local following of servicemen, as well as rock and blues fan who travelled from all over the UK to attend. In 1987, it changed its name to the Mildenhall Rock & Blues Festival.

In 1989, when Rory headlined, he was also joined on the bill by: Uriah Heep, Dumpy’s Rusty Nuts, Stan Webb’s Chicken Shack, Engine, The Buster James Band, The Hamsters, April 16th, The Naff band, Fahrenheit, Forced Entry, No Nonsense and Euphoria

I had heard for many years that there was footage of Rory’s performance circulating out there and, once again, the trusty Rob Phaneuf came to my assistance! Last autumn, he sent me a DVD copy of his original VHS bootleg, featuring 38 minutes of footage. I have now uploaded this to the Rewriting Rory YouTube channel and am delighted to share it with you all:
