Rory at the Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis, 20 March 1991

On this day in 1991, Rory gave a barnstorming performance at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. This was the 11th date on his US tour (the first since 1985) and part of a broader international tour that had taken in Japan and Australia previously. Despite Rory’s six-year break from touring the country, he was welcomed with open arms by fans – something which he seemed rather bemused by when asked in interviews about audience reactions on the tour. Rory had hoped to return to the US again in 1993, but his ill health sadly prevented this. However, Rory made sure to make a lasting impression on North America, sealing his reputation as a first-rate performer and ensuring that – although he never returned to the continent – he most certainly would never be forgotten.

Thanks to the kindness of a fellow Rory fan, we recently obtained a DVD copy of the whole Minneapolis concert. While bits of the concert have circulated online for many years, the full concert has not been previously available. We have now uploaded the full concert (2 hours and 15 minutes!) to our YouTube channel and share the video here below. We hope you like it!

Many thanks, absolutely amazing concert. I could finally see everything. Too bad there’s no video at the end, maybe a problem with the cassette, maybe the battery ran out…😳 In any case, it was wonderful!

So glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, it’s a shame that that video goes at the end, but great to hear Used to Be, even if it’s the audio.
