FAQs

Has this book been approved by the Gallagher estate?
Although not an ‘official’ book about Rory Gallagher, we consulted with both Dónal and Daniel Gallagher at the very beginning of our project as we did not want to pursue anything without their blessing. We sent them our book proposal and introductory chapter back in December 2022, to which they responded positively. Since then, we have kept them informed of our book every step of the way and have fact-checked the content with them at various times. The book also includes some information and quotes provided directly from them and other members of the Gallagher/Roche families.

How is this book different to previous Rory Gallagher biographies?
The major difference between our book and previous Rory books is its focus on the final decade of his life, which has been hugely overlooked. Most of the topics we cover have either only been passing mentions in previous Rory books or not mentioned at all. While our book does not shy away from Rory’s personal challenges during this time in his life, we offer a compassionate and balanced view, showcasing his continued achievements and avoiding the cliched ‘rise and fall’ narrative. To put together this book, we have conducted fresh interviews with hundreds of people over the past three years – from family members, friends and fellow musicians to fans, photographers and journalists. We have also delved into archival materials across the world in a range of languages to obtain a broader perspective on Rory’s life. Unlike other books about Rory, our book takes an essay format, with each chapter focused on a particular concert or album.
