Farewell to the best guitarist in Ireland. Rory Gallagher did not have many fans in these lands, but surely those of you who were will have already heard the sad news. His last stage cannot be said to have been too brilliant, but still I would never have missed one of his concerts………
Rory became the most important blues-rock guitarist in Ireland and part of the world; especially in the 70’s, in which album after album he proved to be a guitarist, singer and composer with strength, style and character. I always imagined him with his long hair, jeans, a worn-out Stratocaster and his plaid shirts; a good guy. …….
At the beginning of 74, several live shows of the band were recorded in Ireland, material that was used for their live double Irish Tour 74, the Gallagher album that everyone should have, a wonder, with songs from his previous works and some new versions of his blues idols………..
…….”Defender” made it clear that despite the five years of waiting and his problems with alcohol [sic], he was still the same as always. That’s one of Gallagher’s virtues, he always stayed true to his music, refusing to market it or play on typical pop TV shows. That is why he never got high positions in the sales lists, although his popular acceptance was incredible…………
And that’s the whole story, all we have left of him are a handful of songs that will never die. I’m sure many of us will miss him.
