His Blues-Rock heart has stopped. His alcohol-soaked liver [sic] couldn’t take it anymore, and he couldn’t overcome the complications of the transplant he underwent; his fingers will no longer slide down the six strings, his voice will never communicate again, nor will he play a single note with his old Fender, his musical talent will no longer give us songs like Tattoo’d Lady or «A Million Miles Away.
…Today, still feeling deep emotion, I once pay him a well-deserved tribute so that we don’t forget what this man has done for music.
…Almost thirty years forging a professional career full of excellent compositions, incredible songs, countless concerts kicking around stages working his ass off, failing to look after himself, energy in abundance, improvisation and humanity. Blues and rock were the focus of his passion, which he masterfully transmitted to us.
He visited Spain four times: in 1975, in 1979, in 1984 and in 1986, and I swear to you that I feel like a lucky man because just one year before his first visit to our country, I had the great fortune of listening to him for the first time (Live in Europe), and from that first moment something inside shook my nervous system and its notes and chords began to flow through my veins like a waterfall that reached my ears without stopping. The influence and power of his sound and his plucking took me over. A year later, I was able to see him live, at Madrid’s Monumental Theater and the spell was consummated, I was captivated by his magic forever.
Twenty-one discs released and many bootlegs of splendid workmanship constitute a discographic jewel of incalculable value.
Rory Gallagher, you have left us, but your musical legacy remains, your memory remains, your spirit remains, your message remains… I will never forget you!
