Heavy Rock, 1st July 1995

“He was just a bluesman. I think this will be your best epitaph, Rory. You didn’t suffer from delusions of grandeur being aware of your own talent, and that made you even bigger. Humble servant of the blues that the black muses nursed in an Ireland as white as the sheet music that you never needed to interpret the music that you had written in your heart.

Blues has lost an important figure, my friend. Thank you for all the records that you have left us as an inheritance and also thank you for those that you never recorded, because you teach us once again that greed distorts art…..

………….You were just a bluesman, that’s all. That’s all.”
