| Guitare et Claviers, July 1995 An obituary written by Frédéric Lecomte, following Rory’s death on 14th June 1995, for the French magazine Guitare et Claviers. The obituary unfairly only focuses on the 1970s part of Rory’s career. Furthermore, it contains some inaccuracies and dubious information regarding Rory and the circumstances of his illness and death. | Guitar Player, July 1995 An obituary by Oscar Bastante for the Spanish magazine Guitar Player. The obituary focuses only on Rory’s career up until Against the Grain, so misses out a huge period of his music and life. It is fairly well written, although there are some inaccuracies in places. |
| El País, 16th June 1995 A short obituary for the Spanish newspaper El País. It doesn’t go into much detail about Rory’s career and, again, focuses predominantly on the 1970s. | Guitarist, June 1995 One of the better obituaries that we have come across about Rory, written by Romain Decoret for the French magazine Guitarist. However, the article is still overwhelmingly focused on the 1970s only, in addition to containing some very glaring errors (e.g. that Gerry McAvoy’s nickname was Rod De’Ath and that Rory got divorced in 1982!). |
| Goodtimes, June 1995 A German obituary written by Uli Twelker for Goodtimes. There are a number of inaccuracies in it, including Rory’s date of birth and comments about his health and output, but it generally paints a positive view of him and his music, as well as his legacy in the hands of Dónal. | Heavy Rock, June 1995 A short obituary by “Paco Records” for the Spanish magazine Heavy Rock. |
| Heavy Rock, 1st July 1995 (1) A short but sweet obituary for Rory by Beatriz Torreadrado in the Spanish magazine Heavy Rock. | Heavy Rock, 1st July 1995 (2) Another obituary from the same issue of Heavy Rock, this time by Enrique Barrera. |
| Guitar Player Magazine, July 1995 A lovely obituary by Carles P. Mas for the Spanish Guitar Player Magazine. | Rock and Folk, August 1995 An obituary written by François Ducray for the French magazine Rock and Folk. This is possibly one of the worst and most insulting pieces we have ever read about Rory and shows that the journalist has really little understanding of him and his music, and why our website is so necessary in ‘rewriting’ Rory’s story. |
| Popular 1, August 1995 A short obituary by Tony Martínez for the Spanish magazine Popular 1. On the whole, the article is well written, but it falls into the usual pitfalls of claiming Rory’s music had diminished in quality in his final years and also that all of his problems centred around alcohol, again justifying with our Rewriting Rory project is so necessary. | Rory Gallagher (memories of Jean-Nöel Coghe, September 1995) This is one of the most beautiful tributes to Rory that we have read. It is quite painful to read, however, as Jean-Nöel goes into some depth about Rory’s passing, funeral and wake. |
